The Consortium for the Advancement of Scientific Software (CASS) coordinates DOE-funded software stewardship organizations (SSOs) — PESO, FASTMath, RAPIDS, S4PST, STEP, and CORSA — to advance scientific software in service of scientific discovery.
- Ecosystem-level coordination: CASS provides shared infrastructure, coordination, and stewardship practices that improve interoperability, quality, and adoption across a diverse software portfolio, complementing (not replacing) product-level stewardship by individual SSOs.
- Working groups: CASS working groups — including Software Ecosystem, Integration, Impact Framework, Software Quality Assurance, User-Developer Experience, and Workforce — bring member SSOs together on shared technical and community goals.
- A loose federation with real structure: Since bootstrapping in Fall 2023, CASS has established a charter, by-laws, a Steering Committee, and a public software catalog and website.
PESO’s role in CASS. PESO leaders invested significant effort in bootstrapping CASS and continue to serve in its leadership roles:
